outreach

Wednesday was the first day we got to start our outreach program, we were all nervous as we didn't know what to except.  The homeless shelter for children which was really hard like the children were scared to take part, they were really hyper and wanted to so their own thing. Which is understand able as this maybe one of the only times they get to be free with other people! It was must likely hard for them to come into a room with the crazy strangers and learn routines so I'm hoping that once they get to know us and use to us that they will open up and want to join in! I walked away completely drained and upset that I felt like a bad teacher and that I wasn't doing a good enough job! Then we went to the prison, we had to wait outside in cars. When we got in there the place was actually beautiful! I had to walk across the path and as I did a group of boys in sets of 3 pairs and in 3 mini groups came marching down the stairs in a military form.  But then as we walked to the hall the others were waving at us and saying hello, as they played football or doing work outs. They were all in coloure coordinated clothes! So I was both nervous and excited as I waited with the others to go in! Once we got in there was a group of 20 guys and 5 girls they all introduced themselves to us and were so friendly. As we did a little meet and greet and showed them the first number they would learn they were really into it! Then it came to showing them and although they found It hard to pick up the steps and lyrics they all gave it a really good try and lived in that moment!! They all cheered each other on and motivated one another as I watched it , it was so moving! These adults who are my age people just living! They didn't care about what they looked like they sung so loud and dances hard! It was a beautiful sight and one of the girls turned around and said to me I'm so happy, I'm excited I've loved today!!!
